Welcome to the chapter support page. We all know Chapters take work, dedication and some TLC. We open this space to chapter leaders, and the public alike. We want to provide information, materials, ideas and as much wisdom as possible so that chapters can find and apply what works the best for them. HLAA chapters are our strong point. Consider joining one of our chapters, consider help lead, or to start a chapter near you.

What is an HLAA Chapter:A chapter is a group of people that get together in a particular region of the state. They can be members or non members. People in attendance can be people with hearing loss or loved ones of a person with hearing loss. The chapter serves the purpose of providing education, support and advocacy regarding hearing loss needs. A chapter is run by members for the members. Chapter meetings can take all forms. It can be an informative session with special speakers, it can be a session in which members share information and give support to each other, it can be a recreational experience and so much more. Chapters will usually have a small team to coordinate meetings. Chapters are the bedrock of HLAA! This is how Rocky Stone our founder, gave us strength, hope and a whole new way of life.

How to start a Chapter:All you need are people with hearing loss interested in getting together with the intent to learn, share, give support and advocate for a life of better hearing and communication with the world around you. If you are such a group, contact your state HLAA board to get support and ideas on how to start a new chapter. Remaining connected to the HLAA organization is of great help and resources are available.

Keeping a Chapter strong:The sky is the limit and people are key! Being surrounded by those who understand you is central to what a chapter is all about. But also providing information, ideas, skills, topics, news, fun, friendship, activities are all part of being an HLAA member. The more you participate, the more you will benefit from the chapter.
|
Chapter structures:Of course we need to have some type of organization. Chapters will find what works best for them. It all depends on the size, location, and needs of the group. But for the most part, chapters should have a president/coordinator, assistant coordinator, secretary and treasurer. If more is needed, members will be asked to step forward to help give shape to the chapter. The chapter team will also remain connected to the state HLAA board and be apprised of events, special activities and state board meetings throughout the year.

Chapter Resources:Your state HLAA will have some materials available to you. Contact someone on your state HLAA board and just ask. Our state webmasters will be working on posting some excellent resources for Wisconsin HLAA chapters. YouTube is also an excellent resource if you are looking for videos on hearing loss.
