Introducing the new Hearing Loss Association of America - Metro Milwaukee Chapter! A brand-new board is working hard to build on what Eloise Schwarz created to serve people with hearing loss and those who care about them in the greater Milwaukee area.
Metro Milwaukee Chapter board: Co-leaders: Jim Goddeyne and BJ (Elizabeth) Ermenc Secretary: Marie Elsner Treasurer: Shirley Sharp Outreach Chair: Pamela Martin (Creator/Chair: Luv2Hear)
We’re new to these positions, so we need your ideas, support, suggestions, and active participation!
We also need to get the word out that we exist and meet multiple times each year. See our current meeting schedule on the main page. The meetings are at the Wauwatosa Library, 7635 W. North Ave, Wauwatosa, WI. Doors open at 6pm, meetings run from 6:30p-8p, or later depending on questions for presenters and conversations among us all. Refreshments are provided, and the meetings are free!
Our board currently meets monthly at Wauwatosa Public Library. This meeting is open to everyone! We discuss how we function and what topics to present at our meetings. That’s where you come in! What do you want or need to learn about? Do you have something to share with the group?
We think about these issues and more: How do we cope as hard of hearing people in a fast-talking, diverse, swiftly-moving world? How does hearing loss affect our work and personal lives? How do we help our families and friends understand what we need to communicate better? What do our local, state, and federal governments and organizations need to do to help us be part of all processes?
We’re excited about making Greater Milwaukee a better place for people with hearing loss! Some of that enthusiasm comes from attending the 2018 HLAA Convention, where we were educated, entertained, and inspired by a vast array of intelligent, active people, many of whom suffer from hearing loss. Multiple people from our chapter attended and we learned a lot about what we can do and how to do it. We won’t accomplish it all in the next year, but we will make a start and identify our priorities for the future. That’s where you come in again – this is your future we’re talking about! Join us to learn and participate by asking questions, inviting others, or even helping out by answering the door or setting up for the meeting. Do it once or commit to it for a few months – we are sooooo flexible! You might have a great idea for a program or an event we should attend with a booth of information. Offering a suggestion or idea does NOT mean you’ll be put in charge of it! ;o)
