Nominations now open for HLAA WI State Board Interested in getting involved in HLAA-WI? There are two board terms expiring this year and two current vacancies on the Board. Consider running for one of the positions and help lead Wisconsin HLAA. The Nominating Committee will present the slate of candidates at the annual meeting in October to be voted on by the total membership.
The state board meets four times a year at various locations or online. Become a part of this team that sets the policy and direction of our state organization. See below to download the application and submit the completed application to the Nomination Chairperson as indicated on the form by September 15. Governor's Council for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing:What does this service entail?
Candidates may serve a 4-year staggered term or serve out a term vacated by a former Council member. Deaf, Deaf-Blind and hard of hearing individuals are strongly encouraged to apply. When Does the Council for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Meet? The Council meets four times a year, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Department of Health Services building in Madison. NOTE: The meeting room is equipped with a Loop assistive listening system. Interpreter and real time captioning services will be provided. The Council has identified six priority areas for the 2017-2018 year: 1. The By-Laws have been revised and updated to reflect more current practices. 2.Improve access to employment opportunities for people who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing and Deaf-Blind in Wisconsin. 3. Increase awareness of Hearing Loop and T-Coil Technology to promote and support additional installations throughout Wisconsin. 4. Improve communications between the Council and Wisconsin residents who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing and Deaf-Blind. 5. Increase access to community educational opportunities for people who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing and Deaf-Blind. 6. Improve the Council's relationship with Wisconsin residents who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing and Deaf-Blind ensuring that Council decisions are reflective of the communities that we represent. The Council for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing is a group of nine people who are deaf, hard of hearing, deaf-blind and hearing (e.g., parent of a deaf child, teacher of the deaf, interpreter) appointed by the Governor to advise him, the Department of Health Services and the Office for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing about issues and concerns affecting over 500,000 people in Wisconsin who are deaf, hard of hearing and/or deaf-blind. |
